Analysis: Repercussion of Divided and United Indians.

In 2020, the President of India, Sh. Ram Nath Kovind, belongs from a Dalit family has occupied a highest post in the largest democracy of the world, i.e; India.

It is a special feature of democracy that a person from lower or downtrodden of the society reaches to the highest post of the country.

More or less, it shows that the constitution of India provides opportunities to the people of this country to acquire any post without discriminating on caste, religion, sex, linguistic, etc, which is certainly a great achievement of the constitution since 26th January 1950.

Even the second highest post of India is Vice-president, which is occupied by Sh. Venkaiah Naidu who comes from the backward castes.

Thirdly, the Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi, also comes from the other backward castes, is accepted as a leader of this decade not only in India but across the world except few neighbouring countries.

All these highest posts occupied by the persons who are either from Dalit or backward castes which shows the tolerance of the democracy of the country. Unfortunately, this is still not the real picture of our country. India is divided into two parts: first is India and second is Bharat.

No doubt, India is a country where tolerance, acceptability, etc, is visible but Bharat is something different where still casteism, male dominated society, dowry, female foeticide etc; exists which is a dark feature of this country. The author will elaborate the repercussions of the incident of Pooja Singh which shocked the whole country.
Pooja Singh, a nat from the nomad community, died near Agra and therefore, the pyre was put by her family to cremate near the village. Meanwhile, the Thakurs (people of higher castes) reached there and forced them to take off the pyre and cremate the pyre of Pooja Singh about 4 kilometers away at ground meant for the Dalit community. However, the local administration had intervened and the tensions between these two communities, i.e; upper and lower, were removed.

According to local administration, these nat families are not interested in filing the complaint against these Thakurs and therefore, FIR is not registered. On the other hand, people of Thakur families claimed that their ancestors had given land to these communities to live outside the village which is already beyond the limit and therefore, these nat should have to cremate their pyre on the ground which is meant for them.

Unfortunately, this incident compelled the author to look back at the history of India, which has been ruled by aliens, i.e; mostly by Islamic rulers for a long time. If the reasons are sought behind the alien rulers in India for such a long time, the existence of casteism is one of them. Hindu is divided into four castes: i) Brahman ii) Kshatriya iii) Vaisya and iv) Sudra and thereafter several sub-castes. If the sub-castes are ignored, the existence of four castes is a sufficient reason to be ruled by the alien.

Before elaboration of the working culture of these four castes, let assume for a moment that the population of Hindus in India were more or less divided into four equal parts. Means that if the population of Hindus was 100, 25 were Brahmans, 25 Kshatriya, 25 Vaisya and rest 25 were Sudra.

i) Brahman: Brahmans were mostly involved in the rituals and acquiring knowledge and therefore, they played a crucial role in the political system of the country in medieval history and the Hindus Kings were mostly advised by these Brahmans. However, they seldom went to the battlefield.

ii) Kshatriya: Mostly kings, army chief, and armies were from this section of the society and therefore, Kshatriya was involved in the day to day work of the administration of the state and local as well as on the battlefield.

iii) Vaishya: Vaihsya was involved in trade and business and they had to pay the taxes, toll taxes, etc. Even they were not interested in the administration of the state and the battle of their king because they had to pay taxes without getting relaxation from whoever the king was.

iv) Sudra: Sudra was the lowest part of the society and the duty assigned by the above three upper castes, was to serve the higher sections of the society on the priority basis. These people were isolated and called for the service like sanitation, etc; and therefore, they didn’t have least interest in the king nor the battle of the king.

From the above division of the Hindu society, it is vivid that merely 25 people out of 100 were available on the battlefield and therefore, the aliens having less number in comparison to the number of Hindus got success in defeating  native ruler.

In 1872, the percentage of Hindu and Sikh population in India was around 74%, whereas, the percentage of Islamics was around 22%. It means that 22% had ruled over 74%. It is because these 74% was further divided into further four parts (Hindus in four castes) means 74%/4= 18.5%. As no census was done before 1872, if we assume that the characteristics of the population were the same during the Islamic Rulers in India, it is obvious that the number of armies of Hindu King was always poor in comparison to aliens.

On the other hand, traitors were also available when the aliens allured them with the throne and money which further weakened the native rulers. “घर का भेदी लंका ढाये” means that “an insider causes the maximum damage” and therefore, India was ruled by the aliens for hundreds of years.

As we know that the Mughal era was started from Babur but the real era in India started when Akbar ascended the throne in India at the age of around 13 years under the patronage of Bairam Khan.

Mugal Emperor Akbar

Later, he started taking decisions of the state administration independently and hence, he sent Bairam Khan to Mecca for Hajj Pilgrimage . More or less, the period of Akbar is better in comparison to other successors of Mughal Dynasty. The condition of Mughal administration started deteriorating from the reign of Aurangjeb and further deteriorated with the successors who were fighting among themselves to capture the throne. This provides opportunity to the Britishers to capture the state administration and therefore, these Britishers ruled this land for more than two hundred years.
If we go to the number of British Army, it is merely 80000 in 1857 who ruled  the native people of this country having 22 crore population in 1881 and if the population is estimated in 1857, it would be around 13 crores in 1857.
Revolt of 1857
India Revolt against Britishers
How shocking is it for this country that around 13 crores people of this country were defeated by the armies of British in the first revolt of Independence. It means that the proportion of Indian people to British Army was 1625:1 which is amazing. It all occurred because of the lack of Nationalism among the Indians and divisions of people into religions like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, etc; thereafter, castes.
Indians were further divided into regionalism which weakened the strength. All these are reasons that Indians were ruled more than two hundred years by the aliens who never adopted this land as their own land. Britishers came to India to plunder this territory to flourish themselves as well as the territory of England. The rulers before Britishers also plundered this land but they adopted this land as their home and therefore, the resources of this country were still here. But Britishers plundered this territory to carry out the natural resources to their own country. This further deteriorated the economic conditions of this country and the arrival of famines killed lakhs of people in this country. All these above incidents show how divided we were in history and therefore, the people of this country had to pay for it.

Although India got Independence when these four castes came together to fight the aliens and therefore, democracy was established. It further adds moonlight when the three highest posts of this country are occupied by the persons of downtrodden and backward caste in 2020 when the constitution of India is almost matured.

However, there is still need for improvement when these types of incidents, the case of Pooja Singh, would be avoided. As we know that India is surrounded by two neighbours who are always eager to capture the territory of India in Jammu and Kashmir. Nowadays, Nepal is also hostile under the Prime Minister from CPI party, Sh. O. P. Koily. It means that we must have to maintain the fraternity in the country to fight against these neighbours. Indians should have to prepare themselves like Israel so that no neighbours could afford to look towards India and it would only happen when casteism, religion and regionalism is removed.

From the history of India, it is clear that if the people of this country are united, none will have the calibre to capture this land.  The recent incidents in Galwan Valley where merely 50 army personnel of Bihar and Sikh Regiment have taught a bitter lesson to the Chinese army, i.e; PLA. The number of PLA  personnels was around 350 even though the loss to them was more than that of India. It shows the real strength of this country that when we are united, we can not only become a leader to the world community but also protect our land.

Indians should have to follow “वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम” means that “the whole world is a family” to strengthen the country and therefore,  the educated members and leaders of every castes, religions, regions, etc; should voluntarily come forward to avoid to occur like Pooja Singh incidents in India as well as in Bharat.

Wish for the best.

Jai Hind.
